HOW TO USE A CAFETIERE

A Cafetiere or French press works by immersing coarse coffee for 4 minutes before gently pressing down to extract.


What you need...

  1. A French Press
  2. Coffee (coarse)
  3. A Spoon
  4. A stopwatch

Brewing Method...

  • Add 60-70g of coffee per litre
  • Pour just off the boil water on to the coffee. Pour aggressively over the coffee to agitate it. Also allow space as fresh coffee will expand (bloom)
  • Time – leave for 4 minutes
  • Stir – after 1 minute, mix the coffee breaking up the bloom
  • Plunge – after 4 minutes put the plunger lid on and gentle press down
  • Pour your drinks, decanting any extra left as if left in the French press it will turn bitter
